Yeah, it's late, but I think people do still miss the point he's making. There is a difference between killing a deer with a single shot to the head for sport/food and torturing a dog to death because it's not as savage an animal as you want it to be.
That said, I've heard the farming conditions where animals are raised are often as bad or worse as what Vick did to those dogs, so that's a point the writer missed. -
The Lonious, I think you're right about the difference, but I kind of also see it in the farming conditions issue. I think the author was saying that even in the case of inhumane farming conditions, the motivation is not the animal suffering, it's the $$$$$, and the suffering is a byproduct of the crazy profit motive as opposed to the main focus of the situation. With Vick, the point of it seemed to be "how can we make these animals suffer the most", not for money or any other reason, but just for the pure fun of it. That's what makes it the worst.

I don't think his jokes are that funny, but I laugh every now and then at certain skits on real time. I think he should retire from comedy though and focus on doing shows where they discuss issues only. -

It's funny that its over likes Bill Maher so much even though dude made a whole movie ? on religion and basically calling anyone who subscribes to any religion an enemy of humanity.
Carlin had his anti religious stuff too, but it was mostly against mindless sheep. Maher seems to hate religion altogether and thinks that anyone who practices any spiritual belief at all is an idiot. -

Dude, the essay was about "? " in all its forms! It wasn't only about dogs. He even mentions the "cruel and unusual" thing in the Constitution, which is all about PEOPLE not animals
