Cosign . As a side note Maxwell said that blackSUMMERS'night was influenced by FELA'S use of drums . So musically it should be outside of the box. Cant wait to see what that sounds like in February -
i like fela kuti

African music is the GOAT cuz all music is derived from it.
this my all time fav Salif keita song. he is really a hero. such a strong person, he's persevered even though it's very tough to be albino in africa
here's hassan adan samatar, the michael jackson of somalia
and Awilo Longonmba, the zoukous king
i love african music, nothin like it
Salif Keita is amazing, I heard his amazing voice before I knew he was an albino. I liked his song with Buju Banton "Ladji" but Buju could have been a little better on that one.
I like that Samatar, is he still in Somalia? I heard some extremists are opposing music there, is that true?
I love zouk, whenever I go to francophone African clubs it's almost exclusively what they're playing. Drinking Heineken and playing zouk. -
Fela Kuti >>>
but I'ma check out some of this out. Always up to get hip to a different type of music as long as its not techNO lol -
salif's voice is so spiritual, always gives me goosebumps. Hassan Adan Samatar is in America. he makes his money performing at concerts and somali weddings (trust me it's tons of them) around america and canada. he charges like 5 or 10k for a wedding and does hundreds a year so he does very well for himself. it's some crazy ? going on in somalia, but that's a whole 'nother thread.
there is nothing like a zoukous party, the music is so live, the people are wonderful. awilo is truly a legend, i learned to dance watching zoukous videos
That's good money right there.
Yes, good times at the zoukous parties. There's a slow zoukous song with a female singer singing in French that I love. I don't know much beyond that so I've given up finding out what it is until I hear it again.Princess Jihad wrote: »I like that South African dude Liquid Deep. He's not traditional, but he's got a nice voice. I like Toumani Diabete's (sorry if I butcher this!) choir. Nice music.
Never heard of either of these, great drops. Liquid Deep does have a nice voice.
