Are they gonna keep giving Dwight Howard these DPOY awards every year?

For not going up against any quality big men!!! The center position is probably the weakest position in the league right now, why does this dude get the benefit of the doubt when he aint going up against the Kobe,Lebron, Wade,Durant, etc type players. Give that ? to someone who truly deserve it like Josh Smith or whomever.

Either Him or Lebron will get it until another guy comes along and puts up higher stats on defense or is an undersized fan favorite with better than average defensive stats

Lol @ it being Dwight fault for being better than the average ?

What does he do other than block shots, and no i don't consider rebounds defense.

Smith is guarding wing players, ball handlers, gets steals, gets blocks, etc and are going up against the best scorers in the league.

Case and point. It's not so much as dwight being better than the average center. It's the fact that he doesn't have to play defense on anybody. I understand basing defense on stats, but jesus christ....how can you not be a great defender when you can just stand in the lane all game without having to actually D anyone.

He leads the league in blocks and rebounds why shouldn't get it?? Saying he anit going up against good quality players is a cope out, stats are stats regardless of who is being played against.

Ben Wallace won 4 of them, so why can't Dwight Howard get the same treatment?

Also, if you watch the game you would see how Dwight Howard vastly affects the game just by being a blocking threat.

.... Oh yeah, and the stats help:

10 defensive rebounds per game, 3 blocks per game, and 1 steal per game. Who's messing with those defensive stats?

Stats aren't stats only, it doesn't take into account the different variables. For instance, you will never see a Shane Battier,Rodamn or a Bowen on the top ten steals or blocks list, but if you watch the game you would know what they do to the best players on the other team.

Howard is a good team defender, but who the ? is he shutting down on a individual basis, old ass Shaq? smh

    From an overall standpoint...

    Brook Lopez>Dwight Howard

Stop believing the NBA politics and watch a Nets game you will see Lopez game is more fundamentally inclined than DW's. I hope after this season ? give Lopez his credit.

I feel you son there's a lot of players who are better then Howard one on one defense like Shane, Artest and Bruce, but at the end of the day these awards go to the players with the best stats overall and that's why Howard wins.

cant get mad at them for giving it to Howard...He's making a team of bad individual defenders(excluding Pietrus) a good defensive team

Ben Wallace was mad undersized doing what he did... and he had guys he actually had to go up against down low. Dude was going up against Shaq, Duncan, etc.. in their primes.

Oh so Howard is a small forward now? Apparently you don't get where i say guard a player one on one the whole game, playing help defense after the guard and small forward funnels someone towards Howard.

GTFOH. Howard is the first player to lead the league in rebounding and blocks in consecutive seasons, averaging 13.2 boards and 2.78 rejections. Plus last season, the Magic limited opponents to 43.8 percent shooting and finished first in the NBA in field-goal percentage defense, while also securing the league's second best record. And that's largely because Howard prevents players from driving through the lane. He makes a average defensive team into an above average defensive team.

And if you want to dismiss the stats, just watch a Magic game and watch how Howard alters so many of their opponent's team shots with his quickness and blocking ability when they come into the paint. Magic opponents are for the most part reduced to being just jumping shooting teams. look at what he did to Atlanta in the playoffs.

i get what your saying but your center is your last line of defensive. and no one protects the basket like Howard. in the NBA if you can't protect the paint you ain't winning ? .

who else is ? with him on the defensive end besides smith who isn't consistent at all .... he's only won 2 anyways which he was very deserving of...
