For those who believe Jesus died and went to hell for a short period of time

during the crucifixion...answer this, why didnt he just waste the devil at that point? I mean if you see the outcome of letting him run rapid around the world and how he corrupts people so why not just purify him or something..make him cease to exist..that way people cant blame anyone but themselves for their unholiness
