Former Fugees star Pras is teaming up with one of U.S. President Barack Obama's biggest fundraisers to launch a private equity fund to invest in renewable energy. The rapper, real name Praskazrel Samuel Michel, is joining forces with businessman Frank White, Jr. and venture capitalist Shomik Dutta to found DuSable Capital Management LLC. The trio hopes to oversee a $500 million (£333 million) to $1 billion fund which will concentrate on boosting green power in the U.S. Michel tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "I'm fascinated that as the most powerful country, we should be No. 1 in energy and infrastructure, and we're not. We're trying to do our part." The new partners met during the original 2008 campaign to get President Obama into the White House, when White raised more than $10 million (£6.6 million) for his election coffers.

(AllHipHop News) Fugees co-founder Pras Michele is caught up in a bizarre political scandal unfolding in Malaysia.

The Justice Department has launched an investigation into the activities of Pras, who has been connected to a Malaysian financier named Jho Low.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Justice Department is investigating over $1 million dollars in donations Pras made during the 2012 elections.

The Justice Department said their investigation revealed Pras received over $20 million dollars from Jho Low and they want to know how the donations were used to back efforts to re-elect President Barack Obama.

The claims against Pras have emerged as part of a larger controversy involving the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Bhd fund.

The Malaysian government claims Jho Low and his cronies siphoned billions out of a fund owned by the government and deposited them into accounts they controlled.

Documents obtained by WSJ show Jho Low put $20 million dollars into two accounts controlled by Pras in 2012.

The rapper then handed over $1.3 million to the Obama campaign in September and October of 2012, and another $1.2 million to a super PAC named Black Men Vote.

Investigators want to know if the money was used to promote Malaysian interest in the United States, on behalf of Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is accused of stealing over $1 billion.

No hate but I wouldn't ever let Pras manage money for me. Still a VERY GOOD LOOK tho for him to be associated with people like that in those circles. If he plays his cards right he should turn over multi-millions of dollars. You'd have to work very hard NOT to make money in private equity especially in today's environment with U.S. companies sitting on more cash than they ever have in their history and acquisitions and mergers popping off left and right as a result.

Brotha @Sion said that ? . Ole boy is caught up in some ? with the money

Lauryn Hill has had periods of being batshit crazy and pretty sure Wyclef was alleged to be siphoning off Haiti relief donations.

Pras might still be the best choice, lol.

No where in this article did it say anyone on the island of Haiti will benefit from this.
What have these ? done for Haiti? Seriously? I never understood how a ? could be so proud to be from somewhere and literally do nothing to help the people there. I got a GOOD number of Haitian people I went to school with over the years and all they do is stunt. So yeah... Ima sleep on Haitians till they actually do something for they own people. Are shorties still out there eating dirt cookies? ? is ridiculous!

1MDB has been under the media spotlight, as allegations of funds mismanagement broke throughout this year, leading to local politicians and foreign funds and international media questioning the hefty debt of MYR42 billion it has accrued.

A top bundler for President Barack Obama and now Hillary Clinton previously entered into a joint venture agreement with a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund accused of embezzling more than $3 billion dollars internationally.

The troubles surrounding 1Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB), a state investment fund created by the Malaysian government to promote economic development in the country, has garnered increased headlines in recent days after it was discovered that actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s foundation is linked to the foreign entity.

1MDB, via its wholly-owned subsidy 1MDB Synergy Sdn. Bhd., entered into a Master Joint Venture Agreement with Yurus Private Equity Fund to develop solar power plants in Malaysia in April 2014. DuSable acted as the investment adviser to the Yurus PE Fund and was given 49 percent ownership in the shareholding agreement. The remaining 51 percent went to 1MDB Synergy.

Six months after the joint venture agreement was struck, 1MDB paid DuSable Capital $69 million for its 49 percent stake in the joint venture. The groups said the sale occurred before construction on any projects had taken place.

Frank White Jr. is the founder and CEO of DuSable Capital Management. He was the national vice chair for President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign and was a top bundler. It’s estimated that White has raised $10 million for Obama and Democrats.

White is now a member of Hillary Clinton’s National Finance Committee and has bundled more than $100,000 for the Democratic nominee since the inception of the campaign. White hosted a $2,700 per head fundraiser for Clinton at his Washington, D.C., home in September of last year.

White has also given anywhere between $10,000 and $25,000 to the Clinton Foundation through DuSable Capital Management. He did not return a request for comment.

Shomik Dutta, the co-founder of DuSable Capitial, is also a Clinton backer. In April 2015, he donated $2,700 to Clinton’s campaign. When the Washington Free Beacon first attempted to contact DuSable Capital, an automated message was returned saying Dutta is no longer with the group.

Over US$1 million in political donations by rap star Pras Michel has come under scrutiny by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) following evidence that he received US$20 million from Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho around the same time.
Quoting people familiar with the investigation, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said investigators were looking into whether there was an agreement between Michel and Low, better known as Jho Low, to back efforts to re-elect former US president Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential campaign.
