Where's the historical proof...

...for the people and situations in the bible?

I've noticed too many religious people ask for some type of proof from science, if one claims the earth is a certain age then a religious person needs proof as to how that is. If we ask a religious person for proof, besides the bible, they state; just have faith. If it is okay for the religious person to ask for proof and are presented with plenty of research, pieces, actual evidence etc then I feel the same should be given from religious people as well.

This thread is to ask for the historical evidence to back up the bibles claims. If we are truly dealing with a real '? ' and all his dealings with humans, then there must be some proof if not, a lot. I'm not asking to prove '? ', because truthfully you cannot do that. I'm asking to prove the existence of the people and their missions...

1. I first want to start off with Moses and his freeing of the Israelites. This is actually a very big historical event, all done by ONE man, Moses. Moses isn't even an Egyptian, but supposedly was raised as one and by nonetheless a ROYAL Egyptian family. So he goes on to ? an Egyptian slave-master and runs away where his encounter of '? ' has started. '? ' asks this man to free the Israelites and he proceeds to do so, bringing the famous or infamous '10 Plagues from ? '. He is successful in doing so, and brings havoc to Egypt.

Now this isn't something that is a small dealing, this is pretty historical. A non-Egyptian raised man, stands against a Pharaoh to free slaves and kills many Egyptians. Where is ANY historical evidence for the existence of Moses in Egypt being raised there and standing against the Pharaoh? Where is there ANY historical evidence of ANY slaves being freed in this manner?

honestly i made this same argument vice versa in the steve harvey thread basically stating that atheists down believers for having to use faith in their beliefs when atheists have to have faith in science in the day n time they are living in until the next discovery is made or overturns the current scientific beliefs and theories.

as for historical proof u are correct there isn't much to back it up but there is some. i know there are like 4 or 5 important romans and other figures (some secular) of his time who wrote about jesus and the uprise sparked among the jews and the crucifixion, and also some stuff that could be tied to the flood, although it wasnt worldwide. i made a post about at least 5 or 6 historical proofs found today in the steve harvey thread. there was also some kinda discovery about the proof of an ancient people that were only mentioned in the bible's old testament but its definitely possible that a lot of history and writings were lost since those times.

I believe that the people spoken of in the bible, such as Jesus (or whatever you would like to call him) did exist and places did as well. The thing is, where is the proof for any of it? Being that Jesus was supposedly the Son of ? and the world's savior, that makes him the single most important person in all of humanity to ever walk this earth. There MUST be proof for HIM period. There is no writings I'm aware of that date back to his time period, only writings that come HUNDREDS of years later (such as the bible). People such as Noah and the flood, there would have to be scientific proof for a WORLD WIDE FLOOD. There IS proof in science in PLENTY of local floods, but a world wide?

I dislike the, oh well we just have faith and believe and no matter what you say that's that. I think that's ? and that's not finding truth, they're scared of the REAL truth. Anyway, don't want to derail into something stupid in this topic....

look up josephus, tacitus, thallus and suetonius. they all write about a man named jesus and they acknowledge his importance to the jews and his miracles and crucifixion. keep in mind most of these guys r secular roman historians, one of em even threw sum opinion in there basically stating that the jews were pretty much dumb for believing what they did about christ being the savior who will bring eternal life. tacitus' writings supposedly date back to 115 AD

the ancient city of Ur (abraham's birthplace) of the old testament was discovered in 1854.........

"The deepest levels of the city contained traces of a flood, alleged to be the deluge of Sumerian, Babylonian, and Hebrew legend. All scientific evidence, however, indicates that it was merely a local flood."

so even if u were to agree on all these sources as being 100% credible, i still see ur point that there is not much evidence for a believer to hold ground on, only a fool would deny this. either way it is up to the individual to decide, and religions/scriptures do require individuals to have faith. to me it makes sense because thats what really tests whether or not u deserve ? 's grace and mercy when everyone else is trying to make u look like a fool. to trust in Him no matter how bad things r lookin, or how hopeless one might be and continue serving and praising Him is the true basis of christianity, not whether or not the earth is round/flat, or the specifics on the beginning of the universe, etc. to each his own.
