Shedding Tears

Here’s my soul in my hand
This world took more from me than any man can
Lesser men fell to their knees yet still here I stand
They say shedding these tears don’t make you no man
Delvin Lanton’s body washed up on the shore
Dope fiend for decade no one missed him no more
They say ? won the battle. I’d like to believe you won the war.
Death owes me a brother. I long to settle the score.
Learned of your death surfing the web
Still haunted by the fact that my brother is dead
And these thoughts racing around in my head
Keep me tossing and turning on some nights in my bed
Sometimes I wish that it was not him but me instead
Reminiscing on happier days as tears are shed
Some days I remember Allen’s smiling face
Flew off the back of a bike. Gone so young what a waste.
Guess it’s useless longing to take his place
Can’t forget the pained look on his dear mother’s face.
How do you console a mother who’s just lost her child.
Embraced her tightly and held on for a while.
The ambulance left you. Said you’d been thrown a mile.
You laid there dying in the grass all the while.
Kim when you left you promised to be back real soon.
Now you’re clinging to life in a hospital room.
Beautiful life transitioning like the flowers that bloom
A donor wasn’t found; that spelled your doom
Candie I could never forget you.
And how just a week prior I’d promised to come get you.
Remember how mad I’d get when my boys would sweat you?
Speeding on the highway is where death met you.
Mac my big cousin always there for me
Devastated by the news that you fell off a tree
They say that you didn’t suffer. Claim that you’re free
But some days I’d much rather you here than this memory.
Here’s my soul in my hand
This world took more from me than any man can
Peers down on their knees but here I stand
Yet they say shedding tears don’t make you no man
