Can one fully recover after being exposed to extreme violence?

Or does it effect him/her all their life? For example soldiers and police whom depending on their experiences deal with the worse that humanity has to offer. How do they cope? How can they go back home to their children and loved ones without feeling numb?

    Yes. You can overcome traumatic experiences, but everyones process is different. its about realizing what happened, and grasping its severity.
