Beyonce put out a r and b album, lowest selling album of her career
    Melanie Fiona put out a r and b album, didn't sell ? .
    Keisha Cole put out a r and b album, didn't sell ?
    Jazmine Sullivan put out a r and b album, didn't sell ? .
    Mary J put out a r and b album, didn't sell ?
    A Keyes put out a r and b album, didn't sell ?
Trey Songz don't really sell ?
Omarion last album was actually good, didn't sell ?

People keep crying make r and b music but stay not buying albums. The money and sales are in pop/europop right now, these artist are going to go where the money is until r and b fans start buying r and b music. At the end of the day it's the fans who supply the demand, the labels just follow the trend.

    Good point

    Beyonce- 4---- 1.14 million sold
Melanie Fiona- MF Life---- 54,000 sold
Keyshia Cole- Calling all Hearts---- +/- 500,000 sold
Jazmine Sullivan- Love Me Back---- n/a
Mary J. Blige- My Life II---- 563,200
Alicia Keys- Element of Freedom---- 1.39 million sold
Trey Songz- Passion, Pain & Pleasure---- 823,000 sold
    Omarion- Ollusion---- n/a

Sade and Maxwell had big numbers on their comebacks. It's going on four years since the last A. Keys album which will be a big indication of where R&B is headed.

Maxwell moved over 400k first week with his last album. Erykah Badu and Jill Scott both did about 150k... So.....

Maxwell sold that many albums because he has old fans (literally) and the hype of him not making a album in years, same ? for Sade. Still with all that he only went platinum and none of his singles popped off like that to go gold or platinum.

Badu and Jill Scott albums didn't even ? gold.

Why the hell would any artist make music for a demographic who doesn't support them. Usher can make some ? like ? that goes 3 x platinum and take him worldwide, over a niche r and b song that does nothing for him other than apease nostalgic traditional r and b fans.

Look at what is selling, stadium and pop sounding music (Flo Ridah, Rihanna, Pitbull). All that rave sounding music is what's translating commercially and what sells out stadiums.

People say r&b ain't selling but what about rock/ alternative or country or any other genre? Are they selling and if they aren't would kings of Leon or lady antebellum start doing techno inspired music just because its popular? All of ushers news ? sounds generic as ? , almost like the same song. ? is cool and before that, moving mountains was the last joint I really liked from him.

First off, most of them went either platinum or gold, and secondly artists have never made money off of record sales. They make their money off of touring, so why would record sales even matter? As long as you can fill a venue, you're good.

Word to Lauryn Hill who's still touring off of her 1st 2 albums, or Erykah who tours 8 months out of the year.

Btw Beyonce's ? was far from R&B bruh. That ? was as pop as you can get.

No fool. That's the business. You want him to stay in the spotlight for the rest of his life? If what he's doing is laziness then anyone who calls themselves a manger is and so are these record companies. I suppose he should just stay in a box as a puppet dancing and singing for your own personal enjoyment. Nobody stays at the top forever and he knows that.

if you name the 5 top techno/pop whatever hiphop/rnb artists and put them against the 5 top authentic hiphop/rnb artists that should speak for itself:

Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Eminem all outsell your artists easily. And 4 of them have huge international pull. Plus they have separate touring deals and see all the money for their tv appearances and endorsements.

Florida, Jason Derulo etc probably have 360 deals and also in contrast to your belief give a large share of their singles sales to the label, otherwise it would be completely pointless to sign them in the first place. And it's 2012, no one buys ringtones anymore, you go with the ? thats on the phone.
