If college football - especially when it comes to the computers - is so deadset on "strength of schedule" and "style of wins" to determine the rankings (which result in people crying at the end of every year their team wasn't ranked 1 or 2), then why do national powerhouse schools schedule "tomato can" teams to play, outside of their normal conference schedules?

What incentive is there for a team like Michigan to play Morgan St and beat them, 55-3? I mean, it works out for the jobbers; they normally get like half a mil to get smashed for a week (like my alma mater did when Del State went to the Big House back in 2009). But why can all these powerhouse teams put tougher out-of-conference games on their schedule to prove who really is the best teams during the season instead of relying on the damn computers (which will still decide this four-team playoff system, and we'll still have the same complaints, just a lil' less of them)?

? this Ryback ? .

The reason they schedule the cupcakes is to pay for that shiny new or renovated stadium and all the other buildings in the athletic department.

You pay a cupcake 800, 000 dollars to play a FCS school when you may make triple or quadruple that in a weekend.

If you have a home and home with a big school, No money will be exchanged but that will make it where your school may only have 6 homes games out of twelve. Then you have to factor in conference games. they may not be evenly distributed. So that makes only 5 games on a bad year. You can't add to a budget that may put out 27 million dollars a year with just 5 games. So you play two cupcakes, one or two home and home big schools, and your conference games. In some cases, teams play all cup cakes and then just the conference games just to make payroll.
