A Pepsi machine in the Northeast neighborhood of Trinidad was recently found by police to be vending malt liquor, offering neighborhood kids a clever—albeit totally illegally—means to get ? .

According to a tweet from a meeting of the Trinidad Neighborhood Association meeting last night, an MPD officer informed neighbors of the presence of the rogue vending machine, which had apparently been in place for a few months. Danielle Bays, the association's president, said that police have disabled the machine—but that no one has yet taken responsibility for it.

"The Pepsi machine was in front of a 4-unit apartment and of course no one claimed responsibility for it. It charged $3 for the malt liquor so kids were buying it (cheaper for adults to get at the store). MPD disabled it and were waiting for the property owner to have it removed," she wrote us in an email.

Needless to say, D.C. law prohibits such vending of alcohol. In 2002, the town of Clifton, Va. dealt with its own ? -dispensing vending machine—though this one was placed in the town's meeting hall. It was eventually ruled to be verboten. Vending machines in Japan legally sell beer.

Emails to police officials have yet to be returned; we'll update as soon as we get responses.
