Looks like that earlier report wasn't quite on the mark, as the next Call of Duty game now has a name, and it's not Vietnam. It's Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The game's website has accidentally gone live, and while no content of worth can be accessed aside from an empty blog, there's a big logo sitting there for you to stare at.

Activision has officially confirmed the game, saying it hits stores on Nov. 9, 2010 and will be developed by Treyarch.

In their press release Activision calls the game, the follow-up to the biggest entertainment launch in history, which can only be Modern Warfare 2. The release says that the game will "introduce fans to the elite world of Black Ops" as the Treyarch-developed game "takes players behind enemy lines in an entirely new chapter in the groundbreaking and record-setting, No. 1 first-person action series of all-time."

"We can't wait for our community to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops," said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. "We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts."

So that's behind enemy lines, this year, Treyarch developed and, seemingly, a modern setting?

The "Black Ops" name certainly falls in line with our earlier guesswork, which was that the game's action encompasses much more than Vietnam, taking you on a tour of various Cold War hotspots. Or...it could just be a Black Ops team in Vietnam. We don't know, and won't know until later tonight when the game is officially revealed.

That giant date seems to suggest the game will be out on November 9.

Oh wow. Call of Duty has never had a good story, but judging by the trailer, they seem to be tackling the "Project Talent"/MKULTRA Black Ops conspiracy theory. The story would take place throughout different time periods. This guy was probably augmented and brainwashed into being a super solider during the cold war and he's in that laboratory but the government won't let him die until they upload all his memories from his brain onto a computer. Or maybe like a Manchurian Candidate type thing.
