Professional wrestling is known for its characters' gimmicks. Some work, while others are regrettable and forgettable.

One of the more bizarre characters that somehow took off was that of Doink the Clown, who started out with a seriously twisted side and eventually morphed back and forth as wrestling personalities do.

The Toronto Sun reports that Matt Borne, aka Doink the Clown, passed away Friday in Texas. He was 56.

The WWE released a statement offering its condolences on Borne's reported death.

Matt Borne was really awesome alongside Buzz Sawyer and with Percy Pringle in World Class Championship Wrestling (The Von Erichs territory before that went on its ass). Lot of folks who does their annual wrestling dead pool must be might ? right now.

I remember that Shane Douglas ran a promo in ECW about how Vince really ? up with Bornes career.
