Xbox One Launch Date Possibly Scheduled for November 8

A leaked email suggests Xbox One will beat PS4 to market by one week.

Xbox One will launch on November 8, according to an email leaked by an employee of a marketing company that works with Walmart.

The email, obtained by Kotaku, allegedly shows information pertaining to a conference call and includes midnight launches at Walmart for a number of releases in the coming months.

Alongside games like Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and Grand Theft Auto V are listings for midnight launches of Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the latter of which we already know is launching on November 15 in the United States and Canada.

However, unlike the other eight midnight launch listings, the one for Xbox One on November 8 lacks the "confirmed" tag the others have. That could mean this date is tentative, or may even be something Walmart is planning without any indication from Microsoft.

The date would allow Microsoft to beat Sony to market by one week. Considering the $100 price disparity between the two consoles -- PS4 costs $400 while Xbox One costs $500 -- Microsoft is likely interested in any edge it can get.

Microsoft has already scaled back its launch plans and will be bringing Xbox One to only 13 markets in 2013, eight fewer than the 21 it promised at E3. That could have been due to wanting to release sooner, rather than later, or because of the high level of demand it's anticipating -- GameStop has stated it believes that, between PS4 and Xbox One, this will be "largest console launch in history."

Microsoft has yet to comment on the leaked launch date.

They should drop on November 1.

Its a Friday, a jump on the competation and "Buy The One on 11/1" sells itself.

It'll be 11/5 with COD though.

They need to put out an actual release date and not be on some secretive ? . What they gonna do? Surprise you?

People already budgeted for games, PS4, Wii Bundle, Black Friday etc. ..... not a wise move to surprise people unprepared.

Not necessarily. The last thing they need to do now is rush to get it out and end up with another debacle like the RROD problem. But if they do plan to release soon they gonna need to give people a heads up so they can get their money in order. Anything after mid November is Christmas season and people gonna be putting their budgets together from now. Another $ 500 plus games (at least 3 = $ 120 to $ 180 extra) on top of a Christmas budget is going to be hard on people, especially parents.

But honestly, these consoles are preordered into 3 or 4 shipments. Its not like anybody will be able to just stroll into a store and make a choice on the release date. By the time people who haven't preordered can even get one both will be out so the release date isn't really that important.

Xbox One Launching in ‘Late November 2013’?
Contest rules suggest Xbox One could launch after PlayStation 4.

Xbox One may be launching later than expected. According to section 12 of the rules of Mountain Dew/Doritos' Every 2 Minutes Xbox One contest, Microsoft's new console has a “targeted launch date of late November 2013.”

While the language in the rules here is by no means official, it's worth noting that the Every 2 Minutes contest is being held in partnership with Microsoft and has even been promoted by Xbox Live's Major Nelson.

If "late November" is correct, this means Xbox One would likely launch after the November 15th release of PlayStation 4 and later than the widely-expected November 5th release date.

Microsoft announced at E3 that Xbox One will launch in November, but a specific day has yet to be confirmed.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft about the contest rules and will update this story with any comment we receive.
