Is religion reliable? How can we trust religious texts?

Some posters on here agree that religious texts do not come from ? and that they come from men.

But if men are flawed, capable of error, susceptible to treachery, prone to narcissism and so forth then how can these texts really be believed?

The legitimacy of these words is threatened by the fact that they are not directly from the creator and are 'filtered' through mortals who possess all of the above qualities

Though I understand the question, the issues of trust goes far deeper than religion. We have within ourselves the ability to deceive and our " talent" is not just directed at changing the physical wordings of what things mean. It is also providing a corrupt perspective on the things we all grasp as the truth. For example, freedom of speech in the Constitution is a truth that most Americans grasp. However, given a selfish perspective on this truth, one may think that freedom of speech is an excuse or a power play. They may use "speech" to be disrespectful or violate rights of others and think it's perfect alright because the Constitution says so. This right is not intended to be used that way, but you have people who have developed these bad perspectives that allow for bad understanding on what something says...or for that matter, how something is used.

When people claim that particular religions are the truth, we should protest more than offer misspellings and different wordings. We should be asking what are the intentions of the people who say that something is the truth for I believe it offers more to the reason as to why people are so distrusting about religion. Though no preacher would admit that what they are doing is selfish, and they may not even know they are wrong, but if they are telling you that ? exist to support his or her own perspectives and presuppositions on life then you have to have to do more to expose those perspectives.

Trust no religious text without using logical basis for it.
