Eli Roth broke into feature filmmaking in 2002 with Cabin Fever. (Well, he started to break in during late ’02, but Cabin Fever wasn’t released to general audiences until 2003.) The film has spawned one messy sequel and a forthcoming prequel. And now there’s a report that a Cabin Fever remake is in the works.

? disgusting says that Cassian Elwes and Evan Astrowsky are producing a remake. We don’t know about any possibility of involvement from Eli Roth, or the degree to which the story will follow the origin. (Roth’s film featured a handful of recent college kids who vacation at a remote cabin, where they are infected with a voracious flesh-eating virus. Plentiful gore ensues.)

Meanwhile, June 26 will see the release of Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, a prequel to Eli Roth’s original film. (The film has already been released in some regions outside the US.) There was at one point a plan for two prequels, Patient Zero, and Outbreak, with the latter set on a cruise ship. That second prequel has been scrapped. The plot for Patient Zero goes like this:

When a group of friends enjoying a bachelor cruise in the Caribbean stumble upon a research facility on a remote island, a deadly virus is unleashed. The group must find a way to survive before the flesh eating virus consumes them all.
