LeVar Burton wants to bring back "Reading Rainbow" for a whole new generation of children.
The man who asked us to "take a look, it's in a book" is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fundraise $1 million to bring his show back to the Web.
The popular children's show ran from 1983 until 2006 and continued in reruns until 2009.
Burton's "Reading Rainbow" campaign will create a new version of the show available to any child with access to the Internet.
He also plans on offering a "classroom version" of the program for teachers and is spearheading a not-for-profit that will give copies of "Reading Rainbow" away to low-income schools for free. The campaign offers various rewards for donating, including potentially getting to wear his famous "Star Trek" visor.

"So let's do it this, y'all," Burton said. "Together we can create and deliver a proven tool for encouraging the love of reading to millions of children. We can genuinely change the world, one children's book at a time."
"Reading Rainbow is back, for every child, everywhere, but you don't have to take my word for it," he said.

I think it would help honestly. How many little kids wanna read? This might be the gateway their parents ain't providing.

GOAT show.

*Did not know Reading Rainbow was still on in 2006*
Honestly, once you get let go from public broadcasting, it's time to call it quits.

I appreciate the homie's efforts but folk don't care about education. ? will put money into a pro-violent medium like a rap album or a movie but teaching kids how to read? #WhereDeyDoDatAt?

80s babies will support this

When I was little I read a lot. Still do.
But I always found Reading Rainbow annoying as ? .
And kids ARE reading more these days anyways. Honestly, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and even Twilight probably got more kids reading in the last few years than this show ever did. -
You know you broke when you need kickstarter to fund a public access show on the internet.

Had to donate. Used to love this show. Goat day when teachers would have this and Bill Nye on.

it's gonna suck. it won't be good like the one we grew up on. the theme song will have a b.e.t type autotone feel to it and the featured stories are going to be about hipsters that have ironic adventures. nah I 'm just joking. i'm up for it.

Dope. I was on Reading Rainbow in the 4th grade.
