Kendrick Lamar will debut his 14-minute-long film "m.A.A.d" (inspired by his album "good kid, m.A.A.d city") at L.A.'s Sundance NEXT Fest next month.

Though hip-hop artists are currently prone to use the phrase "it's gonna be a movie" when talking about their next project, Kendrick Lamar's semi-autobiographical good kid, m.A.A.d city was one of the few to actually fit that description, detailing a day in the life of a South Central teen. Now it seems as if the project will literally be "a movie," albeit a short one, as Lamar will debut a 14-minute-long film entitled "m.A.A.d" at next month's inaugural Sundance NEXT Fest in L.A.

Directed by Kahlil Joseph (who supplied Lamar's visuals for the Yeezus tour and has previously worked with Flying Lotus), the film is described as “a kaleidoscope of storylines and ideas that defy typical categorization to explore new languages and new forms.” Apparently, Lamar assembled the film's cast from various street corners in L.A.

Tickets for the August 9th screening, which is accompanied by a panel discussion with Joseph and Lamar, and a performance from Tinashe, are available here.
