Incredible footage shows the incredible pool in Italy, which is 40 metres deep - that's the height of a 12-storey building

Experience the exhilaration of diving to the very bottom of the world's deepest swimming pool - without risking the bends - through this spectacular video.

At 40 metres deep, the pool at the Hotel Terme Millepini in Italy is the same height as a whopping nine double decker buses stacked on top of each other.

Named Y-40 The Deep Joy, the impressive swim centre was designed by architect Emanuele Boaretto and has several platforms ranging from a shallow 1.3m deep to 12m before plummeting the remaining 28 metres.

Designed for a range of activities, including free diving and scuba diving, the 4,300 cubic metres of water also contain underwater caves for cave diving beginners.

Despite the depth, the pool is always heated at between 32 and 34°C, so wet suits aren't required by any of the swimmers.

A unique suspended underwater tunnel allows non swimmers to experience the pool too, with a transparent tube running right through the middle of the pool.

There's also a sunbathing deck on the roof, so guests can relax after a swim.

Opened in June, the centre is situated in a natural park in the Euganean Hills and there are plans to cover it in grass to blend it in with its environment.

The Y-40 has beaten the Nemo33 in Brussels, Belgium, which originally held the record for the world's deepest indoor swimming pool at 34.5 metres and also has several underwater caves.

Chile has the record for the world's largest pool which covers nearly 20 acres.
