Funny how this is a hip hop forum but not 1 top 5 in this thread is even 50% hip hop. Have most of us outgrown the culture? Or are ? just flexin trying to look sophisticated?

It's kind of hard to make a list like this because the genres are so diverse and there's so much to cover. I think there's a tendency to want to include more than one genre/era of music..

If I made a top 50, it would probably be 50% hip-hop or better.

Not even, a lot of us just like other music outside the hip hip realm. you talkin' like it's soft to like other genres or somethin'

I dont think homie meant it as a diss, just an observation. I wouldnt say Ive outgrown the culture , but the older I get the less hip hop I listen to and more old school rnb and other genres, that may be partially due to the fact the quality of hiphop is on a decline. With that being said 3 out of the 5 on my list was hiphop artist...

    Pac
    Nas
    and Badu...

    yea she's hiphop

Yeah it was an observation @younggoldie what you described is exactly what I mean by outgrowing the music

I don't think it's that hard, it's separating personal favourites from who you feel deserves a spot due to talent/work ethic/influence.

No diss but you got Mozart as your no.1. He's your favourite artiste for real for real? Like your family and friends be like "Yeah @za'kiss always banging that Mozart I thought you knew?"

Honestly, if you had asked me this question when I was 17 I would have named all rappers or rap groups ( KRS, Rakim, Public enemy, Grandmaster Flash and the F5 and NWA) but I started branching out and listening to other kinds of music around the time I got out of high school. I got into jazz like Coltrane and Miles Davis. I started buying Bob Marley albums, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, etc. That was around the time I got into The Last Poets.

Yeah, if it was a top 50 I'd probably have about 1/2 rap and 1/2 non rap.

As i get older the less i listen to rap especially todays rap. And the more i go back and look for old school music.

That said i still think artists like Big Krit, Kendrick, and Nas are holding it down.

But i also cant listen to rap in the early morning or late at night. Soul & r&b i can bump anytime of the day.

Hip hop still my 1st love in music tho
