Just bought this laptop last week and the ads have worked my last ? nerve. Any suggestions on stopping or slowing them down? Nothing seems to work for me. Greatly appreciated

What ads? Are you talking about Internet Explorer or what?

What ads?

I just got a new laptop with 8.1 and this ? sucks Im about to install 7 on it

@CJ & @The Lonious Monk im on google chrome and ads are firece. Had too many pop up issues with IE so i got rid of it. Chrome is tolerable but these adgaurds and adblocks only have maybe 40% of them under control
-
@Bcotton5 i may go the same route if it comes down to it for me

I have Ad Blocker Plus as a plug-in on Chrome. It catches all the pop-ups. You can also adjust Explorer's internal pop up blocker through the options.
I've been using 8.1 since it came out, and I've never had a problem with ads. -
Is the plug-in different from the extension you get from the chrome store or is it located in there as well @The Lonious Monk ?
-
Yeah, I'm talking about the extension. If you have it enabled, it should catch pretty much every pop-up. I have it on my laptop and tablet and never see pop-ups on either.

I'll uninstall chrome and try it again. I have abp for days and it doesnt do much

Make sure you have it in enabled. You may have downloaded it, but for whatever reason, it's not enabled.
Also, there is the chance that you simply have a virus or trojan or something. Have you tried running a scan for that? It's kinda hard to give good input on our problem because I've been using Windows 8.1 since it dropped and I've never seen the kinda of problem that you're describing. -
use Ghostery or classic pop-up blocker it stops all pop-up ads, and protects from adware
-
I've run scans for that. They catch a couple malware issues and some trojans lately. At this moment I'm not having much of the original issues since i reinstalled the extension.

What programs do you use for virus removal?
-
superantispyware and malwarebytes

i use hitman pro, malwarebytes, and comodo cleaning essentials
