Cop Acquitted in Cleveland Shooting Case Arrested for Assault

breloMichael Brelo, a Cleveland police officer who was acquitted of the 2012 shooting of two unarmed individuals last week, is reportedly expected to turn himself in Wednesday on charges of assault against his brother.

Per Fox 8 Cleveland:

Court documents said Mark Brelo was intoxicated while he knocked on several Bay Village doors at about 4:30 a.m. on May 27. According to the Rocky River Municipal Court, Michael Brelo punched Mark Brelo in the head, face and body.

Michael Brelo’s father, Paul, told Fox 8 News the altercation was between brothers. He said he is still trying to sort things out and is disappointed.

The incident allegedly occurred just four days after an Ohio judge acquitted Brelo of manslaughter for a 2012 incident in which he fired almost 50 shots into a suspect’s car after mistaking the vehicle’s backfire for a gunshot. Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams were killed in the exchange.

Brelo’s acquittal led to outraged protests, but avoided much of the violence that followed incidents in Ferguson, New York, and Baltimore.
