I could see what 50 was talking about in that interview. not many people could see Em toe to toe in a cypher or a battle.

    His freestyle was cool.

I'm not much of an Eminem fan but this was alright.

    Here's my theory on Eminem;

I thought his early stuff was corny and commercial. I hated his radio singles (My Name Is, The Real Slim Shady, Without Me, My Band, etc.). But at the same time he had some underground stuff where he clearly had skills.

Considering the amount of records he sold, his impact and freestyles like the one in the O/P I have to put him in my top 10. Even though I don't really listen to him I have to admit when he's on top of his game he's one of the best.

kinda unrelated but this is a fight klub battle from 2007. the british guy dropped one of the the best lines ever referencing Em at the 3:30 mark.

"I'm a problem to the point where Dre sat Marshall down in the studio and said, you better get your bars up son"

I can respect that, although I personally loved My Name Is and even My Band was cool with me (I'm a sucker for comedy).

Eminem has been in my top 3 talent wise for a long time now. I can only put 2pac and Jay-Z higher, and damn I would have loved to see a freestyle with Biggie vs Eminem. That would have been crazy.....

I also thought D-12's album Devil's Night was tight as hell, that's where both songs came from. Some have called it a classic, I'm on the fence on that but it definitely was a good album.

Ohh yeah you right, My Band actually came from a below avg album, though some of the tracks were ill as hell. I forgot the name of it, but it definitely wasn't on Devil's Night's level

Knowing the IC, you're probably right. The album was deep and lyrical and people in the Bronx and NY definitely ? with it.

EM explained numerous time that he used those singles as a marketing tool to basically bring the fans ear to him and then he could give them the super lyrical deep stuff on the album and on the second and other singles. Unlike other rappers who are lyrical and not known very much EM found a way to mix his lyrical ability with commercialism and made it work to the point of being a legend in the rap game in the eyes of many. Like it was stated above . "When he is on he one of the best" side note..? know how broke this dude was coming outta detroit at one point and with a family to feed and "infinite " flopping, dude figured something that would work

He even "put it in a rap"

    "Oh, he's too mainstream
Well, that's what they do when they get jealous, they confuse it
It's not hip hop, it's pop, cause I found a hella way to fuse it
With rock, shock rap with Doc
Throw on Lose Yourself and make 'em lose it
I don't know how to make songs like that
I don't know what words to use
Let me know when it occurs to you
While I'm ripping any one of these verses diverse as you
It's curtains, I'm inadvertently hurtin' you
How many verses I gotta murder to,
Prove that if you're half as nice at songs you can sacrifice virgins too uh!"

I understand that, but there was a time when the Without Me video was getting played on MTV2 every hour and I couldn't stand it.

None of the other rappers in my top 10 have songs that extremely commercial.
