Both those guys were. This is a good stuff.
Notice how they disagree on many points yet let each other speak and stay respectful of each other. Damn this is such a nice change of pace from watching modern interview shows where they try to talk about a serious subject in 10 minutes and everybody is yelling over each other. -

This is a couple years later and you can hear Baldwin incorporating some of the ideas that Malcolm X (who I think was killed a few months before this) was talking about in the O/P during the debate at Cambridge where he crushes racist ? William F. Buckley 540-160.
It's interesting because you can tell that Baldwin didn't want to play into the spectacle of the debate as it was framed and shifted it to his own terms but still managed to tie his larger arguments into the theme. Buckley knew he was done before he got to the podium where he got deservedly booed, heckled and straight-up laughed at. -
His technique was masterful. Despite a lack of formal education Malcolm X was autodidactic and an adept debater.

Malcolm was that dude. America needs to embrace his genius and stop painting him as just a militant. He was more ore less a modern day renaissance man in what he accomplished.
-
James Baldwin was a saint.
