Star Ocean 5 is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals.
A release date is still unannounced, but the game is developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix.
Thanks, Hachima Kikou.
Update 6:08 a.m.: More details have leaked via Famitsu. The game’s full title is Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness. It is set on the uncivilized planet of Feycreed, which is 6,000 light years away from Earth.
Currently revealed characters include:
Fedel Camus (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) – The protagonist. He specializes at fencing, and protects the order of his village.
Miki Sorvesta (voiced by Nao Toyama) – The heroine. She is the protagonist’s childhood friend, and loves him like an older brother.
Lilia (voice actor unknown) – A girl who lost both her memories and emotions.
The magazine also has screenshots of a blonde swordsman and blue-haired witch participating in battle.
Battles are seamless and in real-time. Depending on the distance between you and the enemy, the way you attack changes, and pushing buttons consecutively will trigger combos.
In addition to traditional event scenes, there will also be “seamless events” such as those where enemies attack you. If the enemy apprehends your allies during these events, there will be branching outcomes.
Here’s the game’s staff:
Developer: tri-Ace
Character Designer: Akira “Akiman” Yasuda
Producer: Shuichi Kobayashi
Director: Hiroshi Ogawa
Lead Programmer: Yoshiharu Gotanda
Thanks, Hachima Kikou.
Update 7:15 a.m.: First scans and more details have come out of Famitsu. The magazine features an interview with producer Kobayashi, director Ogawa, and programmer Gotanda.
“[Having previously been in marketing] I decided to change positions and become a producer out of the belief that Star Ocean is worth staking my life and legacy on,” Kobayashi said. “For Star Ocean 5, I wanted the game to overtly take cues from Star Ocean 3 and draw its essence from that game.”

Damn, those pics look pretty nice. It's being made for the PS3 and ported to the PS4. That's not ideal, but I'll take it.
-
Hell yeah
-
Hope it's better than Star Ocean 4. Lymle might be my most hated character in any game I've ever played.

I liked it. In general, I think a lot of people found most of the characters to be annoying though. It didn't have any infuriating plot twists like 3 though. -
The game is all realistic looking but then the characters are all drawn like anime characters. ? looks off to me. They should of just cell shaded the whole thing or did what Final Fantasy did with their characters.

Jrpg don't do anything for me

I still like the OG Star ocean on Playstation the best but this look promising to say the least I'm so glad the camera doesn't cut away to a different battle map when battle comes up they finally got that part right. Now let's hope the story and music ain't corny.

Details and new screens■ Prologue
Do the depths of space forbid peace for mankind—
Centuries after leaving Earth, after a multitude of trials, with the creation and spread of the ‘Galactic Federation,’ humanity was on the verge of unified order and peace.
But the embers of conflict have begun to burn again.
Over 6,000 light years from Earth, on the unsettled planet, ‘Feycreed.’
Just as so many times before, the waves of history begin from a remote planet.
The Leslia Kingdom. A continent representative of a major power, it is surrounded on three sides, has a warm climate, and is blessed with natural beauty and rich soil.
But despite the fact that this country should have been more powerful than its neighbors, its people’s peace was always being disturbed. Between a spellmark that caused animals to turn ferocious and a band of thieves called Eitron wreaking havoc in the frontier regions, Leslia was plunged into an unstable period known as “The Dark 7 Years.” Stahr, a village located on the southern edge of the kingdom, was brought to verge of collapse.
One young man stood up to face this crisis…
Fidel Camuze…
His father was a royal fencing instructor, and he himself is a swordsman who teaches. He leaves on a journey accompanied by his old friend who was raised as his sibling, Miki.
This voyage would take them into battle and change the fate of the stars.
■ Locations
The Planet “Feycreed”
A planet 6,000 light years from Earth and not yet explored by the Pangalactic Federation. Its biggest continent is Vestir, where half of the planet’s population resides. Its culture and technology are equivalent to 15th to 16th era Earth, but with spellmark mages able to wield magic, it has achieved its own unique advancements.
Leslia Kingdom
A blessed kingdom covered in fertile land and located in Vestir. It is surrounded by a large mountain range, which makes it a natural fortress. For more than 300 years the royal Bariff family has ruled the kingdom, which has grown to become the continent’s most powerful country.
However, after falling into a period known as “The Dark 7 Years,” the remnants of what are said to be its symbols of peace and fortune are gradually fading. The kingdom has a friendly relationship with the neighboring Randock Kingdom, which provides resources necessary for spellmark magic, military alliances, and such.
Outskirts of the Leslia Kingdom
Fidel and Miki live in Stahr Village, which is located in the southern edge of the Leslia Kingdom. Because it’s facing the coast, fishing makes up its villagers’ main labor. The outskirts of the Leslia Kingdom are mainly covered in harmonious land, but after “The Dark 7 Years,” violent monsters and creatures that use spellmark magic have begun to threaten the people.
Unknown World • Technology
A separate dimension space, and advanced science and technology. The heroes’ adventure won’t just take place on Feycreed—they’ll also visit unknown worlds like this one. Across these worlds, a unique Star Ocean series story will unfold combining both fantasy and science-fiction.
