Black History Month

How do you feel about it? Do think its pointless or significant to the advancement of the black race in America and for outside races to be educated about our history?
Honestly I have mixed feelings about it. When i was in school, the teachers I had went out of their way to teach us the bare minimum of black history in February. For example: An article on MLK, Rosa Parks, or George Washington Carver would be read to the entire class. Then we would be tasked to write a 1-5 page essay on how the Black hero in that article inspired us. Which looking back was kind of a joke.
I believe black history can only work if people are actually WILLING to research and study black history. Otherwise everybody else is just going through the motions to not look like a racist. i honestly feel that black history month is just one of many bones the white man has thrown us, just to keep us quite.

not sure it promotes a sincere appreciation of black history, as you mention.

If you're black, every month should be black history month, and I don't support white people trying to teach me about my history. ? their biased narratives, they always have ulterior motives anyhow.
Yes, it can lead to the advancement of the black race if we actually research how great a people we were and are, and learn from our past successes and mistakes. There's a certain pride and worth that comes with knowing and understanding your history. The same way ? have pride for their hometown can be replicated with our great rulers and innovators.
With all that said, I don't believe we should solely focus on our history in Amerikka, especially since we're a process in the making. Our accomplishments run deep. Deep enough to start wherever you feel like starting. -
I have no problem with Black History Month, take that away and we have even less celebration of Black achievements. Take away Black History Month and our achievements get overlooked more.
For now, there's no other alternative. Stacey Dash aka one of America's biggest ? wants to get rid of Black History Month, and we all know she said that to make conservative White folk happy. -
I'm contemplating posting nothing but snow bunny threads in Ill-pix for the whole month, but that's just me...

Happy Black History month everyone, please feel free to post anything inspiring or informal to OUR people.

Absolutely necessary.. there is a billion things that i dont know .. that i would like to know..but dont know....As far as anyone outside of us taking a real appreciation for it ? em.. Because all it is to them is an obligation where they slap down the top 5 faces of black history and breeze right over it.
I mean they didnt throw us a bone.. it was founded by a Black man.. if anything the slight.. obligatory observation of Black History that they do.. was for them to say they are "Tolerant".... hate that word -
