Jay Z and his streaming service company TIDAL hit with lawsuit over copyright infringement and underpayment of royalties. The Jasmine Brand reports that musician John Emanuele from the band, the American Dollar and Yesh Music LLC has filed a $5 million lawsuit against Jay Z's S. Carter Enterprises and two other companies behind TIDAL due to what he claims is copyright infringement and underpayment of royalties.
According to Emanuele, TIDAL is illegally profiting off of artists' work by adding music from independent artists without licensing or receiving authorization from those artists.
“Ironically, when Defendant Carter purchased the Tidal Music Service in 2015, it claimed it would be the first streaming service to pay the artists. Different owner, same game,” Emanuele said, according to The Jasmine Brand.
Additionally, Emanuele claims that TIDAL underpaid royalties and has not provided artists with monthly accounting reports. The $5 million Emanuele and his company, Yesh Music LLC are suing Jay Z and TIDAL for stems from the $150,000 they're seeking in damages per infringement. Check out the full legal document which was uploaded online to the Scribd site here.

Still don't get how these streaming services are supposed to be so much better than buying cds and mp3's or whatever. It's basically a legal version of illegal dowloading lol, It's like buying a 10 dollar pack of blank cds every month to download any album you want.

Title is very misleading

Its simple like leasing, you don't pay that monthly bill you don't get any music. -

I think somebody's gonna make a fool of the entire music industry by making an album that you have to buy in stores.
I know you can't get Prince's music online. He doesn't let Youtube or any of the file sharing/bit torrent sites share his music. He hires a staff of people (probably just 5 people who take turns) to surf the internet and make sure nobody is uploading his music. If you want to get a Prince album you have to go to the store and buy it, or go to one of his concerts.
I think if I was a famous musician I'd do the same thing. I'd hire a staff of people to surf the internet and ? anybody who's trying to upload or share my music. I'd give em a virus. I'd hire a really ? computer geek to send viruses and worms to anybody sharing my music and tell people to go to the store or order the CD from Amazon. If you think about it a physical copy of the CD>>> a mp3 file. Anybody who thinks otherwise is an idiot. -

Every time I download a new Rihanna album her people always getting at me about copyright infringement. Also happened to me with Future a couple years -
you must not know about torrents cause I just found the entire ~8gb Prince discography in like 30 seconds, all these artists do by taking themselves out of the new mediums like youtube or spotify is harm their brand and slowly fade into irrelevance as the new generations aren't exposed to them.

Physical albums are now minority , they'll be obsolete soon

? ....what?
its unbelievable how people have such an issue with buying music. like they get offended at the thought of it. yall got the game backwards. you actually think music is supposed to be free
why not support what you like? music, movies, products, clothing and etc. -
I was laughin at this when I had a cup of tea at the coffeeshop after the math today

Reduced in numbers yes but not obsolete
They have been saying that for 15 years. But as long as they have release day in store signings they will have physical albums. Not to mention in Indie rock and rock genres they are still releasing Vinyl's.
While not as much in hip hop 20 somethings across the country are buying record players and buying records. Maybe in small genre specific instances but they are part of this current generation.
Add to all of this the value of a CD/tape/record in mint condition or good condition to collectors. -

Easy to do when you're Prince and have a collection of some of the greatest music ever. If you aren't, you need ? listenin' to you in any/every way available.

Streamin' >>>>>>> ? not buyin' your CDs.

When you buy a CD you OWN the music, when you stream you rent that ? , If you have a power cut you are ? but not me oh no I have old Ipods and a new Sony Walkman fully juiced and ready to roll haha do not put too much faith in the computers, for example I had a 2TB hard drive with about 100 gig of music, then one day it just stopped ? working, I lost a lot that day, made me think about how I store my family pictures and porn.

Y'all acting like y'all not able to save these albums lol . Every streaming site gives you the option to download the song /album

And I don't care about the services, I'm just saying it's not much better. If streaming was so much better, you wouldn't have artists lobbying to remove their ? from them. People claim to care about the artists right? You got singers mad at Adele for selling millions of albums quickly and ? .. Yes Adele is somehow selling PHYSICAL ALBUMS in this climate. I use spotify and my initial post came to my mind one day recently. I was like I wonder how most of these artists feel about people having full access to their music like that on the first day that it comes out. I mean at least you get to weed out the good from the wack albums, but it ain't like ? are going out to buy them ? .
