Tom Hardy is on display in the first trailer for Taboo, an upcoming FX drama based on an original story by the Oscar-nominated Revenant star and his father, Chips Hardy.

Set in 1814, the eight-episode FX/BBC One co-production follows James Keziah Delaney (played by Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. Alas, his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence.

Executive-produced by Hardy alongside Ridley Scott and Steven Knight, Taboo is currently anticipated to air in 2017.
