A father from Herkimer County, New York, admitted in court Monday that he posed online as his daughter’s boyfriend to receive nude photos of her — and then tried to blackmail her, Fox News reported.

The man, whose name is withheld to protect the identity of his then-14-year-old daughter, pleaded guilty to enticing a child to produce child pornography and receiving and sending child porn.

He could be sentenced up to 250 years in prison, according to Fox.

Court papers say that the man set up accounts with Instagram, AOL and a texting service under a fake name and pretended he was a 16-year-old boy from another town to talk online to his daughter, Syracuse.com reported.

Never having met the face-to-face, the “boyfriend” began to request sexually explicit photos from her, and she reluctantly complied, per Syracuse.com. When she broke up with him, he threatened to send the pornographic pics to her dad. He later concocted a ruse in which he led the girl to believe the boyfriend had committed suicide and told her that the boyfriend had shown him the photos.

The 41-year-old was finally nabbed when the girl reported to her school that she was sexually assaulted by him, WKTV reported. While investigating the case, authorities discovered that the texts she received came from the same house.

The father faces charges of sexually abusing his daughter in a separate court case, according to WKTV. Federal and county officials decided to split the cases because federal sentencing guidelines for child pornography are more severe. The sex abuse trial is scheduled to begin May 9.
