Gunmen stormed the American University of Afghanistan on Wednesday, according to eyewitnesses. Authorities were responding to an attack there, the Kabul chief of police told ABC News.

Dozens of students and Associated Press photographer Massoud Hossaini were trapped inside the building, witnesses said. Several wounded have been taken by ambulances.

Several students been killed and injured; many students and professors are stuck,” said a student inside the university. “Some managed to escape, but we are still here. Please help us."

The attack comes two weeks after two university staff were kidnapped from their car by unknown gunmen. Their whereabouts are still unknown.

At least 13 dead in that attack, 7 of them students, the others Afghan troops or police, many wounded. I wouldn't be surprised if ISIS was behind this, but it could be the Taliban or its allies too. The Afghan government lost another city to the Taliban tonight too, Taliban seem to be getting stronger and stronger.

Crazy.. only 40-50 years ago the US were backing and funding the Mujahideen ( that later became Taliban) against the soviet forces in Afghanistan.

    a. it's a little more complicated than that (guys like Massoud didn't become Taliban; ISI was the group really giving THE TALIBAN direct funding)
    b. 40-50 years ago?! this was the 1970s-1980s, man
