Rick ? said on CNN this afternoon that President Trump not tweeting about Quebec is like when President Obama didn’t comment publicly on black-on-white crime.

Trump has been roundly criticized for, while being so outspoken about radical Islamic terrorism, staying silent on the Quebec mosque shooting that left six dead and 19 injured. Kellyanne Conway said earlier this week that Trump simply just doesn’t tweet about everything (though the president has tweeted about Nordstrom and John McCain and a Democratic Senator so far this week).

? had this to say in response to that criticism about Trump overlooking Quebec:

It should not be a shock to anybody that presidents — anybody is not gonna tweet out things that don’t necessarily fit with the narrative that the administration is trying to put forward. The previous president — when there were attacks by anybody who shot someone black, the president would be out there with some sort of statement to talk about it. If it was the reverse, you never heard anything. So there is a narrative that the White House tries to drive on issues that they care about.

CNN’s Jim Sciutto pushed back and said Barack Obama was certainly vocal on shootings where the victims were not black, but ? clarified his point further:

When there was white-on-black crime, the president was all over it, and when it was a black-on-white crime, that was simply not the case.

Dana Bash acknowledged his point about White House strategy, but added, “This is about what is right and wrong when you’re the President of the United States.”

Angela Rye told ? it’s “horrible for us to tarnish Barack Obama’s legacy” in making that claim.
