Netflix announces Castlevania series

The streaming service released a statement earlier this week that included a brief rundown its upcoming original shows. Innocently tucked into the list was a reference to a program titled "Castlevania Season 1, Part 1" and a vague mention of a 2017 release date.
To say that this news is unexpected would be quite the understatement. There had been no concrete indication that Konami was even considering such a program much less that they were thinking about releasing it via Netflix.
So what's the deal with this show? That's a great question that we are also trying to learn the answer to. Some reports have suggested that this project is being helmed by producer Adi Shankar - creator of this Power Rangers short - as it had previously been suggested that he was producing something for Konami. If that's true, then it would also mean that the show will likely be developed by the Frederator Networks, who are the studio behind such shows as Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors.
Frederator Studios had previously stated that they are working on "a project right now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started," which seems to describe Castlevania quite well. The Globe and Mail are also reporting that author Warren Ellis may have penned the first season, but there's no confirmation of that information at this time.
Given the suspected talent involved, it's almost a certainty that this will be an animated show. A Facebook post from Shankar also suggests that it could be a "super violent" and "satirical" take on the vampire sub-genre, but there's no guarantee he was referencing this particular project.
Specifics aside, the fact that there will be a Castlevania show to binge watch is exciting enough on its own. While we'd be lying if we said that this is how we expected Konami to return the franchise to prominence, it's encouraging to know that they still have plans for some of their beloved franchises that don't involve slot machines.

Symphony Of The Night is one of the rare games i still bust out every now and again from my childhood, game was GOAT.

The more recent Castlevania games were pretty good to me even though they caught a lot of flack. As for this series, it could either be really good or really bad.

It's a muthafucking masterpiece. The designs and soundtrack are beyond glorious. SOtN and Super Castlevania are A-1. CV III and Dracula X as well. So I guess the Castlevania movie isn't happening anymore. Kinda hope this series is animated though. -

I played the LOS on 3DS and it was alright. Nowhere as good as the DS Metroidvanias. Heard that LOS 2 dropped the ball though. Which is a shame cause it had one of the GOAT game trailers

I thought it was good, nothing amazing. I think the only major complaints were some areas where you had to turn into a rat or something use stealth. Other than that, everything was decent. -

Game was incredibly uneven and had design issues, but Dracula was a beast even more than he was as a human. -
It's Netflix so I'm not worried about it being bad.
