Franchise creator James DeMonaco is back for the fourth installment, but not as director.
Get ready for more purging.
Despite seeming to end the story with The Purge: Election Year, Universal and producers Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes have set in development a new installment.
The studio has set a date of July 4, 2018, for the untitled next Purge chapter, which brings back franchise creator James DeMonaco, though not as a director.
DeMonaco is writing the script and will work closely with the producers to choose a new director for the project.
Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, and DeMonaco’s longtime production partner, Sebastien K. Lemercier are producing.
The Purge series is set in a near future America where once a year there is a 12-hour period where all crime, including the most insane acts of murder, are legal. The first movie was a contained thriller that starred Ethan Hawke and made a very healthy $64.4 million on a $3 million budget. By the time of last year’s installment, Election Year, the story had expanded into a battle for America’s political future; the producers still kept the budget low — $10 million — and the movie, which starred Frank Grillo, grossed almost $80 million. The movie was also timely in its political overtones.

theres no other direction they can go. election year was meh it had its moments though with those naughty schoolgirls -
I hope it flops like a goldfish out of water or a eastern european nba player.

Funny, I've enjoyed all of them except the first one. None of them are some ? I'd pay for in theaters but they make nice Redbox joints, especially if you're with a female
-
naw im good actually broke bread on the 3rd one (after really enjoying the 2nd one).. pass

I liked election year. It's not the 2nd but was worth the 10 bucks I paid to see it in theaters.

My whole theater burst into a cheer when they died also. Sounded like a playoff game at oracle -
Haven't even seen the first one and thought there were only 2. The new Saw indeed.

election year was wasn't bad but it was meh compered to anarchy. there was no feeling of suspense because there were killers on the squad. they were all bad ? and ex gang members and their only job was to protect the senator. it didn't feel like a survival thriller it felt more like an action thriller.
purge anarchy had that suspense element because you didn't know what was going to happen next. the bad guys(founding fathers bloodhounds) were more fearsome and it was filled with action and plot twist like when they got to the friends apartment. I honestly didn't see that coming. on a side note I think the guy who was out to get revenge for his son would've played a good live action punisher. -
