Men that are balding: Instant turn off?

I have a buddy of mine who, since I have known him, has rocked the bald look as he started losing his hair at 20. He swears that he hasn't had any less luck with women and that he is even more successful now. This dude doesn't have a great career, a lot of money, a flashy car or anything else really going for him that would being pulling these broads in. Also, if he wasn't balding, the look wouldn't be one id say he'd choose.
This dude made me think, do women really not care that a man is visibly going bald? Is a full head of hair important to you ladies? If you were seeing someone and noticed signs of balding would you head for the hills?
