Not the slightest clue. Maybe some instrumentation they weren't credited/paid for. Definitely not no damn lyrics.

Jean Grae is like a lot of underground artist, can rap their ? off but have no ? presence about them. Lyricism is whip cream on the pie to me, but the pie (substance) is what i care about. Lauryn Hill is better at composing songs and conveying her message and it's good to listen to musically.

What the hell is goin in in here?

For the 1 millionth time: people just b/c an artist is underground does NOT mean they are automatically 'on the low' better than their popular counterpart...

Geez...its human nature, not just music...same concept of how people will say Kelly Rowland looks better than Beyonce

? this 'I'm gon b different and root for the underdog' thread outta here.

Final Hour>>>Jean Grae, this thread, what you thought about before u made this thread, etc.

And yes, I'm heavily up on Jean grae...still bump Struggles and Brooklyn in my Mind now...she's sick...but she has nowhere near the depth of lauryn hill...

so marketing has nothing to do with it?

Jean makes just as good songs as Lauryn do... Lauryn was just part of a movement...

you can be the best rapper/artist in the world... doesnt mean youre going to make it

Next we are going to say that Rhianna has more substance in her songs than Cassie...
but in reality they are the same person...

Yo, there's a war in the mind, over territory
    For the dominion
    Who will dominate the opinion
Skisms and isms, keepin' us in forms of religion
    Conformin' our vision
    To the world churches decision
    Trapped in a section
    Submitted to committee election
    Moral infection
    Epedemic lies and deception
    Insurrection
    Of the highest possible order
    Destortin' our tape recorders
From here and like under water
    Beyond the borders
    Fond of sin and disorder
    Bound by the strategy
    It's systematic deprivaty
    Heavy as gravity
    Head first in the cavity
    Without a bottom
    A fate worse than ?
    What's got 'em
    ? of the spirits
Truth comes, we can't hear it
When you've been, programmed to fear it
    I had a vision
    I was fallin' in indescision
    Apollin', callin' religion
    Some program on television
    How can dominant wisdom
    Be recognized in the system
    Of Anti-Christ, the majority rules
    Intelligent fools
    PhD's in illusion
    Masters of mass confusion
    Bachelors in past illusion
    Now who you choosin'
    The head or the tail
    The bloodshed of male
    Or confidance in the veil
    Conferences of Yale
    Discussin' doctrines of Baal
    Causin' people to fail
    Keepin' the third in jail
    His word has nailed
    Everything to the tree
Severing all of me from all that I used to be
    Formless and void
    Totally paranoid
    Enjoy darkness as the Lord
    Keepin' me from the sword
    Blocked from mercy
    Bitter than cerasee
    Hungry and thirsty
For good meat we would eat
And still, dined at the table of deceit
    How incomplete
    From confrontation to retreat
We prolong the true enemies defeat
    Destitute a necessity
Causin' desperation to get the best of me
Punishment 'til there was nothing left of me
Realizin' the unescapable death of me
No options in the valley of decision
    The only doctrine, supernatural circumcision
Inwardly only water can purge the heart
    From words, the fiery darts
Thrown by the workers of the arts
    Iniquity, shapen in
    There's no escapin' when
You're whole philosophy is paper thin
    In vanity
    The wide road is insanity
Could it be all of humanity?
    Picture that
    Scripture that
The origin of man's heart is black
How can we show up for
    An invisible war
Preoccupied with a shadow, makin' love with a ?
    Achin' in sores
    Babylon, the great mystery
    Mother of human history
    System of social sorcery
    Our present condition
    Needs serious recognition
Where there's no repentance there can be no remission
And that sentence, more serious than Vietnam
The atom bomb, and Saddam, and Minister Farakkhan
What's goin' on, what's the priority to you
by what authority do we do
    the majority hasn't a clue
    We majored in curses
Search the chapters, check the verses
    Recapture the land
Remove the mark from off of our hands
    So we can stand
    In agreement with his command
    Everything else is damned
    Let them with ears understand
Everything else is damned, let them with ears understand....

Close thread. I agree with most of what was said, except to me Jean Grae is on the wack side. Good flow, ok lyrics, TERRIBLE delivery. I can't listen to one of her tracks all the way through. Like I said earlier, she needs to pass the other femcees before she challenges Lauryn. Grae not seeing Eve, Nicki and them. At least they have their delivery on point.

Lauryn Hill WAS the movement! Name me a song by Jean Grae that can match "I Just Want You Around" "Just Like Water" or "The Conquering Lion".

You're being a "follower" for rooting for the "underdog" just because you think that makes you "cool" or "different". I'm 17 yrs old, few ppl my age listen to these artists, so there's nobody that i'm following. Think before you speak and learn how to make an arguement

Punisher's inner monologue: No one believes you, ? .

Anyway, i would reply to you but this 17 yr old kid already said it best (smh @ u gettin sonned by a 17yr old):

DEAD @ you not understanding the stupidity in that bolded statement of poor kid's post.

Being a follower is following everyone else. How the ? is someone a follower for rooting for the underdog, if everyone else is rooting for the popular counterpart? If I'm rooting for the underdog, while everyone else is rooting for LaurMAN, that would make me the anti-thesis to your sheep ? , ? .

And dead @ me getting sonned. It has NEVER happened, and NEVER will. That post he got for free...but if I'm being patronized, the next one he's gonna have to pay out for...and so are you, ? .

Stick to letting the media dictate who you're suppose to like, and not like.

Lauryn is waay better and it's not close. Even lyrically, flow, delivery, everything. Jean ain't ? with her. Jean is better than most girls technically, but she's nowhere near the legends like Lauryn Hill and Queen Latifah. Jean is like the grl version of Talib, except she's worse in everything, especially delivery and style(she sounds like eminem sometimes and that's HORRIBLE).

And lol at some dude comparing Joe and Nas. Joe Budden sucks at everything and in his prime could only do puchlines well. His songs suck. Saying Jean to Lauryn is like Joe to Nas is hating.......on Jean. Joe Budden to Nas is like Derek Fisher to Kobe in basketball

    Jean Grae>>> Lauryn

As MC's. Check Jean's extensive DOPE rap catalog, speaks for itself and if you ? can't realize that you are ignorant Hiphop fans.

On another note as an overall artist Lauryn is Doper. Her body of work has a deeper lasting effect than Jean's music, While Jean is one of the highest caliber female MC's her music just isn't as memorable as L-Boogie. Lauren can sing and ? with instrumentation unlike Jean so she def gets props for that and I enjoy it. Has nothing to do with her MC abilities.
