bruh, put out great artist that made great music, puff's influence was always the backspin to a culture that stuck to what it knew. He wanted to appeal and sell more than he wanted to keep making good music. That new jack ? is when singers thought they could be potentially been rappers. No doubt the ? both of them ? used to put out used to jam, but it took the soul outta the forefront and put it second to dances and popularity.
Not saying they started that ? , but they damn sure didnt help. -

i know what it is. And for the sake of music debate in the wrong place, I'll end my rant here. -
Soul was phased out (mainstream) when disco got hot. Disco killed everything musical. New R&B, neo-soul all that stuff started after Disco came through and crushed the buildings. R&B/Jazz/Soul had a bit of a resurgence in the early 80s before hip-hop came through bigger and better than before.
Soul acts have and will always exist but their profile dwindled a lot in the late-mid 70s when disco came around. You gotta realize there was some really great acts out at that time that wasn't getting any love on the mainstream tip back then either.
Radio consolidation also hurt all genres of music because those on the margins (like Soul) were assimilated into the larger stations that played mostly whatever they were told to play.
The R&B thug is another one that can be blamed for the death of Soul music. Soul music was based on emotion (primarily love & sadness) and conveying a message but 'R&B' is almost exclusively about sex, not LOVE but SEX (they aren't the same thing obviously). -

They could offer me millions to perpetuate the bullshyt to my own people and i aint gonna do it.. that aint what i stand for.. but theres alot of uneducated broke ? that dont stand for ? (due to their ignorance) so they will fall for anything

another term of classic R&B that the mainstream use to push quality music in the underground by force so that the Rihannas and C. Breezy's can flood the market with weak ass music that is audio porn. Seriously, with marriage rates plummeting and relationships barely holding on, its all about sex and showing off these days.
