Copped the HD collection...

To understand the story, is it necessary to cop MGS1?

Also what order do I play them in?

1.) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
2.) Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
3.) Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
    4.) Metal Gear Solid
5.) Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

His list is the timeline of the story. Just play them in the order the games came out, that's how it was intended.

If you're gonna play the old school ones play Metal Gear 2 first, thing MGS1 then so on and so forth. At the very least start off with MGS1. If you wanna understand the story, watch all the cut scenes though get popcorn and a drink because around MGS2 thats when them ? start getting extra long.

    Yeah...

    Sorry for the confusion...

You should play them in release order, but the way I listed is cool way to play the 2nd time through if your looking to piece the story together...

T%he story is easy to understand to those who pay attention.Play the games then watch walkthroughs to piece together things you did not catch the first time. Most people just hate thinking which is why MGS goes over their head.

MGS1 is very dated I would recommend playing it first cause its hard to go back once you played the newer ones.

I played the collection in the order of the events after playing and beating all three console releases back in the day...Playing MGS after Snake Eater/Peace Walker, it was annoying as hell getting used to the camera. Playing without the camera control...

I applaud anybody who can still be bothered to keep up with the story, It felt like Kojima was winging it after MGS1. I gave up after Peace Walker.
