I know we’re all still living in the very real aftershock of Black Messiah, but D’Angelo‘s immeasurably great (and anxiously awaited) third outing isn’t all we’ll have to commemorate is 20th year as r&b’s darling child. This April, we’ll be adding yet another reason to celebrate the man’s glowing legacy with a vinyl reissue of his debut album Brown Sugar on a white-pressed, 180 gram wax as a 2xLP. With the album being out of press for the better part of the last two decades, the reissue is more than welcome, especially for those of us that have spent ungodly chunks of change on locating and procuring the seismic introductory piece. Imagine hearing the calling card title-track or “? , Damn, ? ” in all of it’s deeply funky and brooding glory on the grooves of that thick and heavy acetate, busting through your wood-bodied shelf speakers. Now that’s the gift that keeps on giving. The Brown Sugar reissue completes the trinity, making each and every one of D’s albums available on wax for your collecting as of April 21st.
