2012 saw the release of two critically acclaimed, buzzed-over projects from a new crop of R&B heavyweights: Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream, and Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange. Naturally, fans and media pushed the two into the same lane and an unspoken rivalry began to bubble up, even if only felt by listeners.

Well, with Miguel’s excellent sophomore album, Wldheart, released last month and Ocean’s Boys Don’t Cry expected to drop in July, that rivalry just got a bit more real.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the singer spoke about his contemporary:

“I wouldn’t say we were friends,” Miguel said. “To be completely honest—and no disrespect to anyone—I genuinely believe that I make better music, all the way around.”

His words will generate more chatter for his album, at the very least. Let us know what you think in the comments.
