My mom was always a big music fan, and i remember she use to have one of the biggest music collections ever. I swear we would go to the music store every week to purchase the latest albums. But out of all of her albums, I think CAMEO would hype her up. YALL REMEMBER THAT SONG WORD UP. WHEN THAT SONG CAME ON, MY MOM WOULD GO ? NUTS. SHE WOULD BE DANCING LIKE SHE WAS AT THE CLUB. THAN SHE WOULD GET ME TO JOIN IN. I KNEW EVERY ? WORD TO THE DAMN SONG. THOSE WERE THE DAYS MAN

Naw but seriously my pops loved all that 70s funk (and a shitload of jazz). My.mom liked more the Luther vandross, anita bsker ? from the 80s.

But this was the joint my dad played that always got me hyped as a kid. I can't believe a rapper hasn't sampled this yet...

My dad loved Cameo too, Isley Brothers, temptations, all the oldies. Out of new music, any song with cracking drums would get him amped lol. He was crankin that MC Hammer pumps and a bump for like 2 years straight lol. He also love that Wobble Wobble by the 504 boyz... Moms loved Patti Labelle and the oldies. She also played Kenny Rogers a lot, dude had some dope songs.

My mother (pbuh) was a huge blues fan and thats what she played in the house/car 75% of the time. Everything from BB King to Marvin Sease to them low down ? blues that would make Too Short catalog G rated. She also was big into 70s love ballads and 80s dancefloor hits. The one song that my mom ran into the ground was Carribean Queen by Billy Ocean. I still can picture her getting ready for the club in 1985 dancing all around the house listening to this song over and over. She also liked country music and had a soft spot for Celine Dion and Cher. My dad is a jazz, funk, disco and 80s 12" singles fan. A one way ticket to an easy ass whipping in my childhood is to touch one of his Lou Rawls or Grover Washington Jr records. My dad is a native New Yorker so he witnessed Hip Hop from birth firsthand and still has alot of rare pre 1978 hip hop records, tapes and a couple of his project party tapes on Reel to Reel

Parents played a lot of songs from the Caribbean; Mighty Sparrow, Gabby, Beres Hammond, Jah Cure. Along with some smattering of 80s pop and r&b from all over.

But yo, the craziest thing is I once caught my mom bopping and dancing to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now while she was cleaning the house. I was dying of laughter man.
