Kevin Bacon is heading back to Tremors.

The actor, fresh off Fox's The Following, is attached to star in a TV reboot of Tremors, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As first reported by EW, Universal Cable Productions and Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions are developing a new series based on the 1990 feature film Tremors. Bacon will exec produce and reprise his role as Valentine McKee. The drama will be written by Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle).

A network is not yet attached, though UCP says there are multiple outlets who have expressed interest in the potential series.

The film, which grossed $16.6 million domestically, was produced by UCP feature sibling Universal Pictures. The movie about giant killer worms was produced by The Walking Dead EP Gale Anne Hurd and starred Bacon as a handyman in Perfection, Nevada. It spawned four direct-to-video sequels and a subsequent TV series (Tremors: The Series, which aired for one season on the then-Sci Fi Channel in 2003). Bacon was only attached to the original.

The news comes six months after Bacon said he was interested in revisiting Tremors. "I'd love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later," he told IGN.

The project hails from Blum's microbudget deal with UCP that will see the mastermind behind Paranormal Activity develop TV fare on a better financial model for the cable-focused studio.

Reboots continue to be all the rage as broadcast, cable and streaming services look for proven properties in a bid to cut through the glut of original scripted programming. Key to their success is having the original producers involved, with Tremors produced by the same company behind the movie.
