Martin Scorsese’s SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) – at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director’s 28-year journey to bring Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel to life will be in theaters this Christmas.

    My days of going to Marty's films blind have been over. When I was growing up Scorsese was my favorite filmmaker along with Jim Cameron.

    Then he lost me with Kundun in the late 90s and I had no interest in anything he did again till The Departed. Yes that means I missed Gangs of New York, Thr Aviator and etc. and frankly I don't care that I did.

    This one doesn't change anything however I will say if he does end up making Devil in the White City and The Irishman those will be opening weekend joints for me for sure.

    There is still a lot of scorcese films i havent seen myself. I've only checked out Gangs of New York, the Departed, Shutter Island, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Casino, and the Wolf Of Wallstreet.

    If there is anything i didnt list that is a "must watch" somebody should let me know!

    I saw the Aviator was added to Netflix so i will probably check that out when i get some freetime this weekend.

    Everything he did with De Niro is totally worth it. Even the Cape Fear remake and New York New York. So get on that as well as Mean Streets, The King of Comedy and Raging Bull ASAP.

    Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and Raging Bull especially are all all time top 10 contenders.

    It's still Scorsese. I think the wackest movie he's done was that kiddie movie he did some years ago but I think he bounced back with The Wolf Of Wall Street which was a film with very youthful themes directed by a septuagenarian ...

    You must be talking about Hugo...but you know critics aren't gonna take a ? on a Scorsese/animated film in one sitting because it pulled a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

    I caught this on New Years Day. Had no hangover so I booked it and went on my own. I may start doing that more often. No distractions. Just immersed myself.

    I'm not big on religion but I must say I loved it. Driver and Garfield were great. Surprised this hasn't been talked about much on here. Probably because it's not your typical Scorsese film. More of a passion project of his.

    You can't really call it Oscar bait when Marty has wanted to make this film for years. It's a passion project for him.

    Love this movie. Grew up with some cats who became EMTs. They said it was accurate.

    Saw it tonight at a late showing at the local cinema... being a massive Scorsese aficionado (I bumped into Taxi Driver on TV last night) ... I had to urgently because I didn't want to miss out on it been taken off the cinemas because of it not drawing large viewings

    It's a good movie. It's a total turn around from TWOWS as a follow up and the title of the movie is almost like a constant reminder throughout the 160 minutes; there's hardly or no background or theme music.


    Basically a story about persecution of Christians in 17th century Japan and the forceful conversion to Buddhism of foreign (Portuguese) Catholic priests... interestingly there were odes to two events in the New Testament gospels involving Christ highlighted in this film


    I was totally impressed with Scorsese's grasp of Japanese culture and this is a film like The Revenant that celebrates nature: seas, forests, mountains and rocks even mud...


    Good lead performance by Garfield who's proving himself as a serious actor from the Spiderman suit...


    It was a long movie but I was prepared and open eyed all through and whoever said this is Oscar bait I think is wrong. It's been said this film has been a long dream project of Scorsese and it's pretty evident. It's not a film that looks like it's crying for awards... or takes itself quite seriously. The award bodies even look to have snubbed it
