If you dont have a 1080p TV then you will not see a difference. If you have one you are doing a disservice to yourself.

1080p not 1080i because 1080i is 720p resolution! And 720p is a little better that 480p (which is regular TV). If you have a 720p justby a upconvert DVD player.

I'm happy with a 720p HD tv and BluRay still doesn't impress me on a 1080p display either.

lol @ watching blu-ray on standard definition. That's insane like hooking up a vcr to ya LED tv. I mean who does that? I almost past out from the sheer genius that shipped ps3s with composite only.

Not exactly numbers wise but if you put two next to each other it looks the same. 1080p looks much better than 1080i. Also 780p looks great in smaller TVs. I dont even think they sell 1080p in smaller TVs. If they do it is a waste of money outside of using it for specific things(video games, etc.) outside of just watching TV!

    no, it's not.

1080i and 1080p have the same resolution: 1920x1080 (720p is 1280×720). The difference comes from the way each is displayed. The "i" in 1080i stands for "interlaced", the p in 1080p stands for "progressive scan" (look 'em up to see the differences between both display techniques).

watching Iron Man2 on a wall projection screen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> all others.

and, watching it on my rear projection 720p HD joint is still nice as hell.

Thanks for the technical talk but 1080p picture compared to 1080i is not even close. I have a 1080i and a 1080p 72" Samsung and the 1080p is much better!

Not really. From what I've seen, 1080i does poorly in fast-moving sequences. Often times 720p can actually look better than 1080i. Definitely not the same though.

What I said is accurate, what you said is completely incorrect.

The difference, as I've already said, comes down to he difference between interlaced video and progressive scan video, the "i" and "p" after 1080.

Interlaced video is inferior to progressive scan, as you've already noted.

What type and size TV you running. If you under 42" and not 1080p, you don't need BR.

seriously tho, a well recorded movie in standard def or basic 720p HD looks good projected on a wall. In truth, there was never a need for BR to begin with.

BR is really about storage space. If a disc can hold 50Gb, then you can pack more content on it than a 4.5 Gb DVD or 9 GB Dual Layer DVD.

and all they're gonna pack on it is outtakes, interviews, and other filler... and they still won't even use half the disc.
