NEW YORK -- A team spokesman says the Portland Trail Blazers won't offer a contract extension to former No. 1 pick Greg Oden before the Monday deadline.

The Oregonian reported Friday that the Blazers and Oden's representatives agreed there would be no extension, making the oft-injured center the first top pick since Kwame Brown not to get one at the end of his rookie contract. Teams have until Monday to reach deals with first-round picks from the 2007 draft.

But Portland hasn't seen enough of Oden, who has played in only 82 games since he was picked ahead of Kevin Durant. He has been sidelined since fracturing his left patella last Dec. 5.

Oden will be a restricted free agent next summer and the Blazers will be able to match any offers for him.

I'll buy it to injury prone

I say yes offer him an extension at a much cheaper price. The worst that happens is he's injured again another two years and he fills your 13th man on the bench spot.

The upside to him becoming what he should if he stays injury free is worth the small price you pay for an extension.

why would he sign a contract for less money
when if he plays real good this year and stays healthy
then some one is going to overpay for him in free agency ?

why you acting like greg oden would accept less money when if he stays healthy then his value goes back up
believe it or not guys but he is a beast on the defensive side of the ball
offensively he's average but he is a great defensive center when healthy
so its smart for him to wanna play this year out and stay healthy

With a lockout on the horizon, the Blazers would have all the chips to negotiate a cheaper extension if they wanted too. Especially since they are dealing with an injury prone player.

Collective Bargaining, guys want guaranteed contracts. Plus no matter where he goes he will have to take less than he's making now.
when if he plays real good this year and stays healthy
Then I guess the extension is a no brainer.
why you acting like greg oden would accept less money when if he stays healthy then his value goes back up
Obviously if he stayed healthy and played well this wouldn't take place.
believe it or not guys but he is a beast on the defensive side of the ball
Thats why I was talking about his upside.

By All Star game it will be set whether he's offered or not. Even healthy and playing well a 2-3 mil a year multi year deal would be signed by him. Oden don't seem like the type that would ask for more than he's worth.

his agent and greg oden already said they dont wanna talk extension
cause they believe he is going to have a break out year
do you really think that the lock out is going to take place ?
if it does do you know how much money the league/ owners will lose
this will get done trust me

Well then yes, I still say offer him. I'd go up to 1.5mil a year guaranteed. Like I said at worst, he's a overpaid bench warmer for a few year. At best he's your starting Center and a defensive stopper inside.

I don't see how you can go wrong by offering him.

    that ? made me laugh

    2-3 million dollars a year ?

    zaza pahculia makes more lol
and dont forget desig diop he makes like 6 mil a year lol

    your case makes no sense

blazers and oden are right for not talking extension
he plays good this year and stays healthy then he can get what hes worth

and if portland wanna keep him then they match any offer thats simple

but he wouldnt take that 1.5 is a smidge above the veterans minimum.......
even if he gets injured again this year
    i gurentee some team
will give him a better deal then 1.5 a year

I'd sell on the extension from a front office standpoint, considering the date of the deadline. That said, Greg should have a decent season when he gets back and should be able to secure a decent contract if he can remain upright once he gets back till the end of the season.

I would give him a contract for a couple of mill, best case scenario he pulls a Bill Walton, if not then let him go.
