an innocent inner city kid
too little for him to know the conditions he was living in
he used to walk to school
8 years old
too young to know the neighborhoods he was walking through
he had dreams of making it to the big leagues
3rd base on his Chicago White Sox baseball team
3rd grade; getting straight A's
he was the sparkle in his mama's eyes
now mama's asking why
he was a block from home
school just let out
so he was walking with his IPod on
that's why he couldn't hear as the car got near
all he heard was the gun blast
and tried to run fast
but suddenly couldn't run no more
and passed out on his steps
by his own front door
and mama came out the crib
only to see her son lay
covered in blood
from a bullet that went stray
too little for him to know the conditions he was living in
he used to walk to school

he didn't get a chance to grow into a man
to live to see his kids
get old and be a dad
and no one understands
nothing you could say that sounds right
no homecoming or prom night
no graduation
mama still crying when she looks in the room
no one's playing the playstation
daddy hurt and its killing his brain
to know he'll never see his son first little league game
and mama misses picking up his dishes
the smile on his face when he wakes up on Christmas
and who did this
where are they now
do they know the pain they bring
from taking this child
you never know when its your time to go
but damn
little man just made it on the honor roll
and now he gone cause someone can't aim
and they never gonna feel that pain
yeah I had someone in mind but like you said, situations like this are pretty much across the board. As the old saying goes, sons and daughters bury their fathers and mothers, not mothers and fathers burying their sons and daughters. No one should have to go through what these parents have to go through -
I been trying to respond to this for gawd who knows how long..
Anyways, ur absolutely right, no mother or father should have to bury their child, its the other way around. Yet this is seen everyday all over the globe. Over the summer I saw much pain in my familys eyes, ESP my aunt who had to bury her daughter and grand- daughter, a traggic lost I don't ever wish in nobody. The burial site was horrific than a car crash! I cant bare to see another fallen child, let alone family members or friends..
I'm sorry for ur lost and hope next time we can all write on happy moments.. But poems like this are needed to unleash the pain and the twisted knobs in your throat!
Peace and much blessings! -

most these boys don't even know what life is about, yet they are all ready to take one and it always comes back to personal responsibility. Ask anyone who has ever succeeded despite where they come from, what their life would have turned out like had they not had morals and courage of conviction. I'm pretty sure the notion that the people they grew up with didn't have a choice would be insulting
