Good thread.
Babies wont understand this cause of the era. Defintely more pride in the Black community and whoever said it was right they were fearless and dope.
Now if you say something about ? folks, or police they get their publicist to spin in.
Far as drug use.
Your favorite entertainer and sports figure probably have sniffed up before...... -

Yes they were, and I had to drop the samples too. I actually have the samples on wax too in my collection. -

It's all good my dude. *dapz*
But they did come out at that certain era, late 80's early 90's. The racial climate was outta control at that time and the homophobia, it is 2011 so it's much different now. But I was a teenager at that time so I related to it.
And that nasal flow Sadat X had was goat lol -

brand nubian is my ?
and lmao, their first album is heralded as a classic and i cant stand it =/ lol.
But in ? we trust some hard hitting ?
and Everything is Everything is my fav from them
man they had a smooth ass FREESTYLE on their album. Not too many do that. its a great song too (not that fake ass contemporary freestyle ? , but some impromptu off of the top rhymes)
and down for the real. Man, listen. Sadat's verse is CRAZY. One of the most descriptive verses ever. And i been in a situation comparable to that, so it hits home.
"...now im dashin....cars in the garage...run past the Path...run past the Dodge...fumbled to my keys...made it to my ? ...the AK can spray, now ? getting hit, are you down for the real?"
that was some smooth ass story telling right there...I love this song
(great usage of Menace to society too)
"Once again its the dread and the bald hed, wont be satisfied till the devils i see em all dead. Put em in a mass grave for the past slaves they were slaying......u think a ? forgot?"
Still same brand nubian vibe
"you gotta make up that loss from when the cut was butt, and the work was dirt. A whole package ? up , you know you owe The Man. You gotta hit him off if you still want the block. So he can look the other way if he catch you with the glock, and for the cookup he might give you a hookup "
social commentary in full effect
one of my fave albums. Check out Everything is Everything -
peace to the t/s.... we need threads like this in the Reason.
IMO Brand Nubian is a top 5 hiphop group. these conscious brothers hav never strayed from they content or watered down the message they came to the game with.......

everything is everything was mad slept on. lot of live instrumental work, but it was done well.
