Not one classic album, a bunch of mediocre pop albums. Is it eve a good thing to be on this list?

Drake and Nicki Minaj were never apart of the XXL Freshman list.
Despite what their albums turned out to be, I think XXL's Freshman List is great platform for new artists. The only downside to it is that the biggest and brightest stars were the ones that didn't do the cover i.e. Drake and Nicki. -
This speaks more to what is getting hyped in the mainstream rap game not just XXL Freshman list
-
Or maybe the list just picks mediocre artists
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Blu might be dead by now, nobody knew what happened to this ? after Below The Heavens (classic) and a few collabs.

I doubt any of their freshmen lists can top this lineup.

agree for the most part tho -
Bob, Asher, Big Sean, Jay Rock dropped solid debuts..Wale, Cudi, Fashawn, Blu dropped great debuts..
-
Well my ? Curren$y doing his thing so I guess he immune to the sucker ass curse....well sucker ? period.

This post is the only valuable answer. Case closed. -
drake and nicki weren't even freshmen.
-
Nah the list USED to be credible until that 2011 ? with lil b and fuckign lil twist. But nah most of them ? just didn't capitalize off the buzz. B.o.b, Cudi, Big Sean, and Spitta have been the only ones from the lists that are actually doing their own thing. They're just making predictions, who could have known that Chucky Ham would have such a fall from grace? Who could have known that Asher Roth's album wouldn't do ? even after he had all the white folks on his ? with I love College? It's not really a curse they just picking folks who they see are doing their thing and who you should probably be on the look out for. Just because them dudes have failed to do their part means nothing.

my bad i worded it wrong. i meant to say that they weren't on the freshmen cover, so therefore they're not apart of the xxl freshmen curse. -
Jay Rock put out a hot album.
Pill got a couple solid mixtapes.
OJ.. whether you love him or hate him he is doing his thing with his mixtapes.
J. Cole, Cory Gunz, and Big Sean.... no comment at all.
Fashawn... that ? work at Wal-Mart or something now.
Ace Hood is wack and all of his songs sound the same. -
I'm gonna catch some heat for this, but Cudi is 2 for 2 right now. Both them albums were dope. He may not be the best rapper skill wise (maybe the worst out that list), but when it comes to the music that HE makes (stoner, emo music), he's the best at it, definitely better than Wiz or Drake songwise. And cats act like BOB was never on that pop ? til he got signed. Half that album he made before he got signed. Satellite is dumb old.
-
Cudi consistently dope
-
spitta and cudi have put out quality music since before those covers and haven't stopped...
