where i'm from in my neighborhood

    ? was listening to C-bo, Master P, E-40, Too $hort, etc...

i liked all them too but i wasn't a follower,

? like Nas was different and brought something to the table that wasn't average.

    no hate
    just stating facts
based on the artcle(plus i googled it) Illmatic was big in the East Coast, didnt go gold til a few years later and finaly went plat in 01

reasonable doubt didnt go plat til 2002 and thats jays best work

It took long enough to plat cuz people caught up. It came out on tape you realize that? Not all rap was goin plat in that day-and-age. Even on their first album, even if it's hailed as a classic and the rapper the second coming of the R.

And you also understand, most sales stop after a while so if an album doesn't go platinum in the first few year or so it's not gonna happen? That if nothing else, shows some insistence that people will still listen to lyrics.

    really?
so you honestly think Gucci took notes from Illmatic???
    Wayne?
    OJ?
    Waka?
every rapper isnt/wasnt influenced by Illmatic and it is not the blueprint for ever rapper/Hip Hop album
if that was the case we'd have nothing but short albums, with meh production, no features, and take years to reach gold
its a good album but this is where yall start to overate it

most of the ? that sells big out the gate is because it is mass marketed ? . some of your biggest selling artist are your wackest historically.
