Obviously, what makes the two songs comparable is that hip-hop is used as an extended metaphor in each song. So which rapper's handling of the metaphor do you like better? Which beat, lyrics, and flow do you like better?
This is all mostly a matter of opinion. I'm assuming that most people think that "I Used to Love H.E.R." is the greater song, so I'm not asking which song is greater or more legendary. I'm simply asking which do you like better.

CommonI love American Beauty and the beat is I'll as ? on it, and as an emcee Mega is up there with the best of them, but if had to chose one song to be my favorite hip hop song of all time it'll probably end up being I used to love her

Isn't that song about a gun though? I guess I could pit that against Nas's "I Gave You Power" though.
