Again like Stic Man of Dead Prez, Black Thought is nicer than 85% of dudes rapping.
The Roots has one of the best catalogues in Hip Hop and he is the sole rhymer on all of those albums.
Im confused at the non love for Black Thought on these forums

never heard of the roots...
smh at your ignorance. -
He's overrated. He raps very regular. His flow isn't impressive, his punchlines are average, and if you compare him to other conscious rappers, he gets overshadowed easy. There's no way Black Thought can hold his own against people like Nas, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli etc. on a constant basis.

damn he ? =on ur hero
? ur self while playin the roots cd -
I was thinking the same thing after hearing Super Lyrical the other day
-
On the contrary. His flow is sharper live than most anyone. Comes with the territory.
Just listen to "The Web".
I concede his punchlines aren't knocking heads off, but he doesn't try to come across as them being the next ? to begin with. And in this day and age, who's punchlines aren't ? played to ? that you are actually expect to hear an original reference? Including my damn self, I can pretty much still count that list on one hand.
But regardless, he holds it down. And can we stop usin that "conscious" box? Black can spit, and in my opinion, he's lightyears ahead of where he was when he was on Superlyrical back in the day. -

I second this. Seen him live @ RTB last year... The Roots and Red & ? put on the best shows I've ever seen.. And I been to a lot (Nas, Jay, Busta) -

hes way nicer than Talib. Hes never been a punchline mc. But he is more vivid and makes you feel what he is saying much more than Talib is. I won't put him over the rest though -
